Catie (Naomi) Futhey is an MD/PhD student at the University of British Columbia studying the molecular signatures of Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia, with a particular interest in identifying sex-specific features. Her passion for understanding sex differences in health and disease was sparked during her undergraduate research at McGill University, where she investigated the roles of estrogen and vitamin D in Multiple Sclerosis. Through the joint UBC MD/PhD program, she has come to appreciate the power of integrating research and clinical education to advance women’s healthcare. This commitment has driven her advocacy efforts, including founding a faculty Women’s Health Clinical Education Working Group and WHREM (Women’s Health in Research, Education, and Medicine), a medical student-run organization at UBC. Passionate about women’s heart and brain health, Catie is grateful to be part of the vibrant, like-minded community of the CWHHA.
