I have the good fortune and honour to work as a librarian at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where I get to support the research of so many teams, many of whom are focused on women’s heart health!
My expertise lies in a kind of research called knowledge synthesis. Basically it consists of searching for academic articles (and sometimes other types of information too) from all over the world on a given topic, sifting through everything, and then condensing what you find into digestible information that tries to answer a research question. You may have heard of these before as “systematic reviews” or “meta-analyses”, though there are lots of other kinds.
My role in all of this? The searcher! My job is to try to find everything possible for the research team so that they can go through it all and find what they need to answer their question.
