With over a decade of experience as a community pharmacist, I have developed a deep commitment to advancing women’s cardiovascular health. Throughout my career, I witnessed firsthand how often women’s heart disease symptoms are overlooked or mismanaged, which fueled my passion for improving awareness, education, and patient care in this area. To help address this gap, I organized community awareness days in my pharmacy and educated my patients on how the signs of cardiovascular disease may present differently in women.
Now, as a medical student at Queen’s University, I am working to bridge the gap between clinical practice and medical education. I am in the process of establishing a Women’s Heart Health Interest Group with the goal of integrating education on sex-based differences in cardiovascular disease into the medical curriculum.
By combining my background in pharmacy with my current medical training, I hope to advocate for meaningful change in how women’s heart health is addressed. Through my involvement with the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance, I look forward to learning from leaders in the field, contributing to research and advocacy efforts, and helping to improve cardiovascular care for women.
