Biography
My name is Andrea Anna Loria, and I am 30 years old. I am a born and raised Calgarian but come from a very proud Italian heritage. Throughout my life, I have remained high-achieving, hardworking, and motivated. I am the recipient of various awards and recognitions and have had an abundance of valuable experiences both within academics, athletics, and my personal life. These experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.
I began my post-secondary career at the University of Calgary when I was 17 years old. I attended the U of C from 2008-2013 during which time I earned a Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Kinesiology (BN/BKin) combined degree. I graduated with distinction from the nursing program and was on the kinesiology dean’s list for my 2011-2012 year.
I returned to the University of Calgary in 2018 to pursue a Master of Nursing / Nurse Practitioner degree. I successfully defended my graduate degree in March 2021 and made my first academic journal submission: Primary Prevention Revisited: Commentary on a Novel Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic for Obesity Prevention. I will officially be graduating from the program in June of 2021 after completing the Nurse Practitioner certification.
I have an extensive resume and am privileged to have had unique educational and clinical experiences throughout my career so far. I have worked as a Registered Nurse in the private and public sectors, at outpatient clinics, and acute care hospitals. My most recent positions were on the internal medicine medical teaching unit (MTU) at the Foothills Medical Center (“The Ward of the 21st Century”), an infectious disease outpatient clinic at the Peter Lougheed Center, and in the recovery room of an oral maxillofacial surgical centre. I have also worked as an RN within hematology/oncology/bone marrow transplant, occupational health and safety, hemodialysis, public immunization, and COVID-19 contact tracing programs. As I graduate from the MN/NP program, I am honored to be joining the cardiology team at Rockyview General Hospital as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in July of 2021.
Although academics have remained a priority for the majority of my life, I also have many extracurricular activities that I enjoy. I am very family-oriented and have a deep appreciation for quality time with my loved ones. I have a supportive boyfriend of eight years and we plan to get married and start a family upon completion of my graduate education. I have a wonderful group of friends who are all successful in their own right and motivate me to be a better person every day. I have a passion for fitness and healthy living, and incorporate physical activity and a nutritious diet into my daily routine. However, I always leave room for treating myself. I enjoy trying new restaurants and love a good glass of wine or specialty cocktail. My life has been enriched by travel, and I hope to continue exploring the world for years to come.
