Personal Background
I grew up in the village of Maitland, Ontario, about 4 hours east of Toronto, with loving parents, a younger brother, and three dogs. When I was ten-years-old, my family’s life changed forever when we lost my father to a sudden cardiac event in our home. Over the course of my personal and academic development, this experience acted as a spark for my interest in medicine and passion for cardiovascular research. This led me to pursue a Bachelor of Health Sciences Undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, where I began my involvement in clinical cardiology and sports medicine research under the supervision of Dr. Amer Johri and the Cardiovascular Imaging Network at Queen’s. I graduated from Queen’s in 2023 and continued my research at Queen’s as an employee for another year, before beginning the MD/PhD program at U of T in 2024. Outside of academics, I love playing competitive sports (hockey, soccer, basketball), watching sports (go Leafs), weightlifting, distance running, expanding my music library, and spending time with friends and family.
Research Interests
Throughout my undergraduate degree I had the opportunity to be involved in research related to my personal passions of cardiovascular health and athletics, studying topics including the prevention of sudden cardiac death in athletes and psychological response to cardiovascular screening, the application of point-of-care ultrasound for cardiovascular risk stratification, and the community response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. During my MD/PhD, I hope to explore the field of cardiovascular research further and develop my PhD project with an aim to advance the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
