Biography

My name is Olivia Staines. I am a20-year-old student pursuing a Bachelor of Kinesiology with the Athletic Therapy (AT) stream at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. I was born and raised part-time in Perth, Ontario, moving to the South Shore of Nova Scotia around the age of 10. Home for me is Lockeport, Nova Scotia, but I currently reside in Wolfville and will continue to live here after the completion of my degree. I have been highly committed to academics since I was young, even graduating with honours and being awarded the Governor General’s Academic Medal in high school. My passion for the human body, and a love for the town of Wolfville, led to my application to Acadia University for the Kinesiology program. Later ,I was shown the career of AT as an option in the program, and I was immediately drawn to the athletic atmosphere due to my extensive experience in athletics starting at a young age. I applied to the AT option, and after weeks of reviewing applications and being selected for interviews, I was accepted into the program and haven’t looked back. I am currently a volunteer for Acadia’s S.M.I.L.E. program, Kinder skills, and Cardiac Maintenance working with those with disabilities, children, and older adults with chronic heart conditions. I am also a member of the Acadia Kinesiology Society, acting as a year representative. Looking toward the future, I am determined to become a certified AT after graduating from Acadia in May 2025. I am looking to travel and find work as I do so, and ultimately return to Nova Scotia intermittently until Idecidereturn permanently and begin work here .Of course, this is just a plan, and I am always open to change and adapting .I am hoping to also become an advocate for women’s health, with a focus on the heart, and I have recently begun looking for programs I am able to join to begin educating myself and aid in spreading information for education of future generations. Overall, my main goal is to support, educate, and help others
