Biography

Shannon was recently hired as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) in Vancouver, British Columbia. She graduated from the Master of Nursing, NP-Adult program at the University of Toronto (UofT) in June 2021. Prior to graduate school, Shannon completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Douglas College in 2016 and a High Acuity Nursing Diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 2017. She has prior experience in cardiac care and high-acuity settings as a registered nurse, and her NP background includes working in thoracic, cardiac, and vascular surgery.

Shannon is committed to deepening her expertise in the field of cardiovascular health research. With a strong passion for cardiovascular health, she actively advocates for patients' heart health. Her interests encompass heart failure management, cardiac risk factor control, and post-operative care following cardiac surgery. She is particularly interested in exploring innovative approaches to optimize patient care, improve long-term heart health, and reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease on patients and healthcare systems.

In January 2022, Shannon joined the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance (CWHHA) to learn from clinicians and patient partners and to contribute to the development of tools and guidelines to promote women’s CV health. As part of the CWHHA, she is an active member of the Wear Red Canada awareness campaign to raise awareness about women’s cardiovascular health, with the ultimate goal of improving the heart health of women in Canada.
